Yes, you CAN be Happy During Unhappy times.
Much like many of you I was feeling the pressure of all the negative stuff around me - politics, gas prices, utility costs, food prices, job market, etc. I realized that it was not the best place for me to go. So, I did what I do best to conquer these things - I wrote a short e-book with a hang up poster on How to be Happy During Unhappy Times. It is free when you subscribe to my newsletter from my website (just look over to the left side of this page).
The thing is the newspaper, the TV news, even when you check out at the grocery store all you read is that things are "bad." It becomes habit to say everything is bad.
Here is the thing - this is true and untrue.
Yes, time are very difficult right now - but what makes this time even more difficult is our dwelling on it. My suggestion - stop reading the newspaper, stop watching the news, play with the kid in the cart behind you in the check out line - do anything besides scratching the wound. Every time you read or listen to all of this negativity it is like taking a wound and irritating it - it just hurts more.
Another suggestion, when your friend calls to complain (I am talking about simple complaining) about life, expenses, how bad the times are - tell your friend you would like to help them by asking them what is going right - there is always something going right. And if they don't want to look away from the darkness surrounding them to see any joy whatsoever - I suggest you tell them you love them, but you don't wish to be drawn in.
Here is why - miracles are everywhere! They surround us. The key is - you have to open the door and let them in. As long as we talk about the misery and disappointment around us - we are blocking out the miracles that are waiting - waiting right there - right next to us. Go ahead - open the door - let the miracles in.
I have inserted a video - My Stroke of Insight- which is one of the most fantastic U-Tube Videos I have seen. Take a few minutes and watch this unbelievable true story.
Write back and tell me the miracles in your life. I am listening. And remember to sign up for the continuing conversation by putting in your email over on the left hand side and hit "Subscribe."
Angels blessings to each of you.

Great thoughts Judith, and I agree. It's all in what we choose to see and how we choose to interpret it. I've seen how a negative message gets started, whether true or not, and then fear takes hold. It feeds on itself and creates a "crisis". If we'd put that same power to work focusing on all the positive that's happening, imagine the difference in our world.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Nancy. Thank you for mentioning it. Fear is like a beast that grabs a hold and doesn't let go. The problem is it takes others along with it. Kind of like PigPen from Charlie Brown - it creates this whirlwind that catches everyone in its path. Fear attracts fear attracts more fear. Stopping it from taking a hold of you takes a very brave person. Judith
ReplyDeleteI agree Judith and I would add that it is all a mater of perspective. To me, this is not hard times at all. When I lived in New Zealand we were paying about $6 gallon and that was 10 years ago!
ReplyDeleteI wrote a piece on my blog called Being Up in Down Times It is all about looking at the benefits and opportunities even when you feel down. It's great to know that each of us has a choice.
Judith, this is so true... spot on friend! I need to bookmark this post and read it whenever I am feeling "under it all." You are a grand lady! Glad to know you!
ReplyDeleteHi Judith, I'm so glad you had the insight and determination to put this together and benefit all of us that are on "the-same-page"! I agree with everything that's been written. I personally have experienced some financial setbacks and of course, like everyone, I've felt the pain (and fear) of rising costs and depressing news. I firmly believe if we stick together, encourage each other, share ideas on how to survive in this climate and keep ourselves focused on the important, non-material things in life, we can overcome our struggles and live more purposeful lives in the present moment. When I think of the past or the future I get overwhelmed with either regret or fear. When I stay present I can take one thing at a time and problem-solve. I want to expand my ability to live fully in the present so I can be happy, joyful, take advantage of today's gifts and opportunities and contribute to others as well. That's my personal challenge. I look forward to continuing this dialouge. Maybe we can all get-together for a chat in-person sometime? With the great weather perhaps we can meet in a park. Thanks again for initiating this totally appropriate conversation!
